The Future of Social Networks
TUESDAY MAY 20, 2008

It's an exciting time to be social on the web. Generations are interacting, friendships are being strengthened, and businesses are exploiting. Five years ago, the idea of social networking in terms of where it is today wasn't even a pipe dream. So, what is going to happen next year, or even the year after that. The social web is growing so immensely that it almost is impossible to predict where its headed, but there are some people out there who have a pretty good idea where.

Futurethink, has just released its new report on "The Future of Social Networking," which reviews five trends to help you uncover opportunities for innovation within social networks. The report itself is a bit pricey, but its insight into major topics and keywords you need to know to gain fluency in the world of social networks is a worthy cost for any beginner. It also presents well defined and clear cut predictions of where social networks will be heading in the very near future.

AIGA Smart/Models
SATURDAY MAY 17, 2008

Presented by the New York chapter of AIGA/The Professional Association for Design. The Smart/Models conference consisted of five design practices with five different business models. It was a look at design-minded businesses, and how each has structured their model to cut through bottom-line pressures and focus on the big picture (creating great work). This conference was a great milestone in the creation of the warhaus as it provided insight into the magic formula for successful design.

In particular; Athletics, a collective of talented designers who spoke at the conference sat down with myself and fellow design partners to provide future and more detail information about their studio. Matt Owens, James Ellis, and Jason Gnewikow became vital mentors for all of us at the warehaus. They helped us realize what it means to be a design collective and the benefits it has over the corporate world of design, and they did it with professionalism and courtesy. We are all forever grateful and wish them all the best.
